How to Nail Your Bridal Portrait Session
In April we talked about the pros and cons of scheduling a bridal portrait before your wedding. Today, let’s talk about how to nail your pre wedding bridal session whether you’re having one before your wedding or on the big day.
Be On Time (Early)
This one is SO important! If you’re having your bridal portraits session before your wedding, it is so important to arrive to your session early. There will be touch ups you want to make, we will have to position you and your dress and sometimes there is a serious learning curve to walking in your wedding shoes! Arriving early ensures we will be able to start the session on time and make the most of the gorgeous golden hour light.
This is also true if you’re doing your bridal portraits on your wedding day. If you are getting into your dress on time, no sweat! However, delays in getting dressed are the number one cause for running behind and missing key photos on wedding days. Allow at least 30 minutes to fully get dressed on your wedding day from veil to shoes. It might only take 5, but it’s better to have a buffer than be scrambling with dress zippers and shoe buckles at the very last minute!
Bring a Trusted Friend
There is nothing like having your best friend to hype you up at your bridal session! Whether it’s your mom, your maid of honor, or another close relative having someone to hold your dress, touch up your hair, and hold your lipstick is priceless.
If you’re having your bridal portraits done the day of the wedding you have a built-in entourage to help you hold your dress, veil and drinks!
Bouquet
It is so important to have your bouquet at your bridal session! This is a great time to have a trial run with your florist. OR it is an opportunity to make your “toss” bouquet. If you’re planning on making your toss bouquet from artificial flowers, make it pretty and use it for your bridal session! It gets two things checked off your list at once.
If we are doing bridals on your wedding day, we will make sure the flowers stay in water as long as they possibly can. Then, once bridals are done, they will go right back in water until ceremony time. The biggest thing to remember here is to make sure the florist delivers your flowers in time for your photos!!!
The main thing to remember about bridal portraits is you want them to reflect YOU! Putting these things in place well before the session will make for a smooth day. You won’t be as stressed and your images will show how excited you are to be getting married!
